How to sharpen a hand saw
Lama SharpenedTo obtain the most efficient use of a saw, should be kept in good shape. Sharpening a hand saw you can save some money, but is a skill that requires a bit 'of time and practice. Sharpening can be a three or four phases depending on the condition of the blade. In the event of damage or misuse of visa, or if the saw teeth are cut off or losing a tooth, you should start with the leveling of the teeth.
About sawtooth
A few words on how the saw teeth are designed to help you work here. If you ever wondered why your teeth are seen bent slightly to one side, there is a reason for it. Set your teeth on the right and left side alternately allows saw to cut a groove in the wood (or cut) slightly wider than the blade so that the blade is enough space to move back and forth in the cut without being blocked or cause too much friction .
Rip saws are deigned to cut along the grain of the wood, have teeth filed down to 90 degrees to the blade to run ASA series of miniature chisels. crosscut saws, in contrast, across the grain of the wood. Their teeth are filed at 65-70 degrees to the blade, acting as miniature knife blades on the sides of the cut.
The space between the teeth, is called the "throat". sawtooth are specified in dots per inch. Smaller teeth are better for hardwoods, larger for conifers, which have less resistance to the saw, and then produce more sawdust, which is done by cutting the throats of the largest with more ease.
Leveling
For leveling, take a flat file by hand and mount it in a block of wood with a slit cut in it. Place the saw in a vise, clamped between the strips of soft wood on both sides of the blade with the teeth facing up. Press the file lock-holding against the side of the blade, this will act as a mask location to ensure a result even when you run the files back and forth over the teeth. The next step is the shape of the teeth.
Teeth Shaping
Saw files are used to shape the teeth on the saws. Would you like you are trying to do here is to maintain a constant pitch of each tooth. In the field I mean the angle that the leading edge of the tooth is leaning on to the front of the saw. Place the saw the lowest among the pieces of soft wood in a vice so that the blade projecting to the minimum possible, while exposing the teeth.
Saw files are in the shape of a triangle, 60 degrees to one side, and the perfect size to use is double the depth of the teeth. Place your video files, with one of three mounting angles in a groove and kept in a horizontal position and kept at 90 degrees to the blade. File with a peer, run forward, holding the end of the file in one hand and the thumb with your other hand and index finger.
This is one of the elements of conflict that requires some skill, so take your time. Everyone needs to be submitted throat until all the flat spots between the teeth are gone, and the shape of the teeth is consistent with keeping the original tone of the saw. Deburring the blade after deposit with a sharpening stone, once over lightly.
Setting Teeth
The next step is to set the teeth in order to make the width of a straight cut. That's why I always use a tool called a saw in September This is a handy little tool that seems to cast as a bit 'as a set of pliers, designed to bend the saw teeth precisely the right angle. You squeeze the handles together and a pre-set forces the piston against an anvil-shaped tooth of the wheel.
Adjustment of the set saw in right field for your saw is easier. At least if you know what to plant the blade, which you should anyway. Just squeeze the handles together and unscrew the lock screw set. Leaving aside the handles, adjust the anvil so that the number of plot you want (on the top edge) is aligned with the plunger. Then tighten the handles back together and tighten the screw in September
You just need to bend the top half of the tooth to set here. Start at one end of the saw, the saw put together more than one tooth, the tooth line with a rock and give a close. Alternating teeth, move the saw and repeat until the end of the blade. Now reverse the saw in the vice and repeat with remaining teeth, so that they are set on the opposite side from the others.
Before you go tot the final sharpening, make sure the set is still holding the chain saw horizontally in your hands at eye level against a lamp. You will be able to see clearly the irregularities. Carefully adjust the teeth out with a saw in September
Fine Grinding
To complete the sharpening process your visa now file the front edge of each tooth to the correct angle. The saw should be back in the grip between the strips of soft wood with the saw handle to the right.
To rip the blades, place the file seen on the front edge of the first tooth to themselves. Taking the horizontal rows and 90 degrees to the blade, running two or three times, calmly but firmly. File of each alternate tooth in the same way, making your way down the blade. When you reach the end, turn the saw in the vise and file the teeth alternating hours to themselves.
For cross-cutting blades, proceed in the same way, except to keep the file in a 70 degree angle to the blade with the handle of a file handle from the corners of the saw. Be sure to follow the same rule, when reversing the blade teeth alternating. A final dressing with the sharpening stone will remove any filing.
A good hand since rust is expected to remain for many years, but you can extend the life of steel by wiping the blade down with an oily rag before using it, and before any long-term storage. Some saws come with tooth protection, and they can help during storage and moving well.
